About If you’re looking for information on Rich’s 79-day spring training regimen, you’ll find it on our 3F79 page. We are Rich and Julie Ries, and we’ve spent years seeking out low-cost, low-stress, travel destinations. We enjoy outdoor recreation, especially bicycling and hiking, and are grateful to live in southern Indiana, an area of the country with abundant recreational opportunities. We make a point of getting outside to play as often as we can and prefer frequent, shorter trips to fewer, longer excursions. With this website we’ll share the fundamentals of where we go and what we do to make it easier for you to get out and play, too. What We Do Rich does most of the bicycling and Julie does most of the hiking. Rich prefers mountain bike trails that are built to IMBA standards, that flow well, and that offer a variety of riding experiences (fast, technical, up- and downhill, pumps and jumps, and engineered features such as log-overs and teeter- totters). Rich also enjoys variety in a road ride and enjoys good scenery. He’s comfortable riding in traffic but prefers low-traffic routes. Julie prefers trails that are flat or with gradual climbs and descents. She also puts variety at the top of the list of trail appeal (rocks, old homesteads, and shallow creek crossings are among her favorite features). Together we go into nearby towns and visit shops, maybe grab a meal, to get a sense of the character of that place. At some point we’ll follow through on our years-long discussion and buy a canoe. We almost never participate in group tours of any type. We don’t attend festivals. We are both enthusiast-level participants; neither of us races. Part of each day is committed to business; any place we have cell phone coverage we can do client work.

If you got one of our business cards and are wondering where that picture was taken, it’s from the Tsali trail system in North Carolina. It’s on our list of reviews to do, but it’ll be a while. Lots of reviews in queue. About
